Coronavirus in Belgium: 11 children under the age of 4 infected, the age group most affected is between 45 and 49 years (GRAPHICS)

Sciensano, the scientific institute of public health, has revealed more precise figures concerning the cases of coronavirus in Belgium.

We know via a press release from the FPS Public Health sent on Sunday morning that 197 new infections have been detected in Belgium (137 in Flanders, 28 in Wallonia and 27 in Brussels), bringing the total to 886 infected people.

But a graph from Sciensano tells us more and allows us to see the age categories affected.

As can be seen in the graph below, 11 of the cases detected concern babies or children under 4 years of age. Proof therefore that even young children are affected by the virus. Another interesting detail: the most affected age group concerns 45-49 year olds. Note that the sticks also differentiate men and women. Thus, if it is men between 45 and 49 years who are the most numerous to have tested positive, this changes for women because they are more numerous in the 40-44 age group.

In addition, on March 14, 163 confirmed patients were hospitalized, including 33 in the intensive care unit; 23 patients required respiratory assistance.
