Coronavirus in Argentina: 10 new deaths confirmed and there are already 1,217 fatalities in the country

The national Ministry of Health confirmed this Sunday ten new deaths from coronavirus, Which brings the number of fatalities in the country to 1,217.

The new deceased are six men, three 62, 86 and 62 years old, residing in the province of Buenos Aires; one 87 years old, from Neuquén; a 66-year-old from Mendoza; one 89 years old, from Río Negro; and four women, three aged 86, 68 and 77, who lived in the province of Buenos Aires; and one 89-year-old resident in the City of Buenos Aires.

As usual, Alejandro Costa, Undersecretary of Health Strategies, was in charge of reporting the updated figures for the pandemic in the country. He assured that the case fatality rate is 2.1%, that there are 26.6 deaths per million inhabitants and that the average age of fatal victims is 74 years.

Total, 57,744 people contracted the disease, of which 1.8% was due to a history of travel, 36% due to close contact with a case, and 42.8% was due to community transmission, mainly in the metropolitan area of ​​Buenos Aires, Chaco, Córdoba, Neuquén, Trelew and Río Negro.

According to the official, 523 people are hospitalized in intensive care. Thus, the percentage of bed occupancy is 49.5% nationwide and 54.2% in the metropolitan area, the most affected area in the country.

Meanwhile, 20,134 people have already been discharged, of whom 991 recovered on Saturday.

Lastly, Costa highlighted the increase in tests carried out throughout the country, with 336,951 in total and 7,915 on Saturday. With these figures, the country reached 7,425 tests for every million inhabitants.
