The number of infected people in mainland China (excluding Macau and Hong Kong) is now 68,500, with an increase of 2,009 cases in the last 24 hours.
In the same period under review, 1,323 people were discharged from mainland China.
In the Chinese province of Hubei alone, 139 more deaths were recorded, bringing the fatal cases in that region to 1,596, the focus of the epidemic detected in late 2019.
The health commission of that province also counted 1,843 new cases, increasing the number of infected in the region to 56,249.
With these figures, the total number of deaths worldwide is 1,669. In addition to the 1,665 dead in mainland China, there is also one dead in the special Chinese administrative region of Hong Kong, one in the Philippines, one in Japan and one in France.
Chinese authorities have isolated several cities in central Hubei province to try to control the epidemic, a measure that covers about 60 million people.
Of the last 139 deaths in Hubei province, 110 have occurred in its capital, Wuhan, which has been quarantined since 23 January.
In Portugal, seven suspicious situations have arisen so far, but no case has been confirmed.
According to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), there are 44 confirmed cases in the European Union and the United Kingdom.
