Coronavirus: How many Colombians have returned to the country during the pandemic – Government – Politics

After three months of the beginning of the measures adopted by the National Government to prevent the spread of covid-19 in Colombia, Foreign Minister Claudia Blum announced that so far 20,000 compatriots have returned to the country on humanitarian flights.

“For more than 100 days we have worked tirelessly so that all the remaining compatriots trapped outside come home. Thanks to an articulated task of the Government, more than 130 flights have allowed these compatriots to be in Colombia, ”said the foreign minister.

The stranded Colombians returned to the country from different places on commercial airline flights, with the prior agreement of the governments of those nations and Bogotá. In other words, most Colombians have had to pay expensive tickets to return.

“We will not rest until all those who are still outside and want to return can do so,” said Foreign Minister Claudia Blum.

The arrival of the pandemic was a severe blow to reality for thousands of Colombians spread throughout the planet. Many were tourists who, of course, had heard of the new plague plaguing China, but they did not believe that it was an unprecedented health crisis and continued on their journey.

Others left months ago to look for a better future or were beginning studies. The truth is that everyone’s life was turned upside down, just like their families in Colombia.

The first return flight of Colombians was on February 28 of this year, when 13 nationals arrived in the country who were in Wuhan, the Chinese city where the pandemic began. At that time, Colombia had not closed its airspace for commercial flights, but the coronavirus was already beginning to scare the world..

That operation lasted almost eight days and he always had the eyes of the press and the entire country on him. And from that moment on, voices sounded from the disinformation and lack of solidarity criticizing that an Air Force ship had gone around the world to rescue the 13 from Wuhan.
