Although the coronavirus pandemic does not stop, the football games do not intend to go into suspension for the second time this year. Huge money spent on tests and research is to compensate for the risks that players take on the pitch and during their travel to meetings. However, the line between common sense and collective responsibility is being crossed more and more often. This time the shocking events took place in Istanbul, where the national teams of Turkey and Croatia (3: 3) faced a friendly match.
The captain of the world runners-up, Domagoj Vida, played only in the first half of the match. As reported by the Croatian media, coach Zlatko Dalić did not let him on the field anymore, because the team’s doctors received the results of tests for the presence of coronavirus in the national team, which gave a positive result to the center-back and one of the team’s delegates.
Vida was isolated from the team and sent to quarantine in Istanbul. The rest of the team, including Josip Juranović, right-back of Legia Warszawa, finished the game, and after him he will go to Stockholm for the match against Sweden in the League of Nations (14.11). It was because of the competition with the Three Crowns team that the tests were carried out again on Wednesday. Monday’s research was negative.
The Croatian national team assures that it has not broken UEFA’s medical procedures, and the change of Vida during the break was an appropriate response to unexpected results.
