Coronavirus has reached the elderly again

Rhein-Main ⋅ The number of corona patients in Hessian intensive care units continues to fall. But there is still no talk of the all-clear on the normal wards, where patients with a corona infection are isolated. Cihan Çelik, senior physician on the Covid normal ward at the Darmstadt Clinic, has been experiencing an emotional roller coaster ride for weeks, which can be read in his Twitter messages.

At the end of March he begged that everyone should not be infected at the same time because the infections were once again spreading rapidly. This wave seemed to ebb in mid-April, and those 80 patients whose routine operations in Darmstadt were repeatedly postponed because of the numerous corona patients seemed to be able to hope for an appointment in the clinic again. But at the end of April the situation changed again. Çelik writes: “Since Easter we have been taking in more hospitalized Covid patients, especially from the over 70 age group. Many patients are waiting for their examinations. Frustrating for everyone.”
