Coronavirus Germany, uncontrolled spread. Obligation to ventilate indoors

Alarm from the Minister of Health in Germany: the number of new cases of contagion from Covid-19 is “worrying” and an “uncontrolled spread” of the virus is not excluded. Minister Jens Spahn’s appeal is not to nullify the successes achieved so far by Germany in fighting the pandemic. “The current situation worries me a lot,” added the president of the Robert Koch Institut, Lothar Wieler, in the same press conference, alongside Minister Jens Spahn in Berlin. “We don’t know how the situation will develop in the coming weeks. It is possible that there will be 10,000 cases per day. It is possible for the virus to spread uncontrollably“, he added. The Robert Koch Institut reported 4058 new cases of infection in 24 hours today. “It depends on us,” added Spahn, whether we make it or not. If 80 million people collaborate, the chances of the virus drop dramatically. This pandemic is a test of character for us as a society ”.

Angela Merkel also expressed her concern over the spread of the epidemic in recent days, stating that if the increase in infections continues at this rate estimates for Christmas are 19,200 new cases per day; but he also reiterated that Germany aims to avoid new generalized lockdowns and intends to act in a local and targeted way. Open schools, limitations for parties (25 people inside) and events (50 people maximum), but above all – Merkel’s word – the introduction in the guidelines for the prevention of a much loved (and also controversial) national practice: the one of Burst ventilation, that is to give air to the rooms frequently, opening the windows wide. Or even of Cross ventilation: open all the windows of a room in one go, creating air currents and a faster exchange (an unimaginable practice here, where a “blow of air”, to the great amusement of foreigners, is considered a real etiological factor of various ailments). National obsession, especially disliked in offices (where the undeniable proverb “Many have frozen to death, none have died yetand “, that is” you can die of cold but not of bad smell “) and often included in the clauses of leases, to avoid mold and humidity, give air to the rooms “It may also be one of the simplest and most effective ways of preventing the virus,” Angela Merkel said on Tuesday. Moreover, 90% of infections occur – it seems – in closed places, so the national passion for “freshening the air” will become part of anti-Covid protocols such as distancing and masks.
