Coronavirus. Furniture stores will be open? Sanitary recommendations of MRPiT

The Ministry of Development, Labor and Technology wants to recommend the government to open furniture stores as soon as possible. The condition for opening would be the introduction of four additional sanitary restrictions, for example, reducing the number of customers in the facility, said Deputy Minister of Development Olga Semeniuk. The final decisions are to be made by the Council of Ministers due to the necessity to amend the epidemic regulation.

Conclusions after meeting the industry

The deputy minister announced that the ministry would organize a meeting next week, including with furniture manufacturers, which will serve to develop a pro-development package supporting export activities for this industry for the coming months.

On Monday, the deputy head of the Ministry of Regional Development and the Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Gowin participated in a video meeting with representatives of the furniture industry. – Large companies participated in it, but also representatives of medium and small ones – Semeniuk emphasized.

As she pointed out, during the meeting it was proposed to restore the operation of furniture stores, subject to the introduction of four additional sanitary restrictions to the safety protocols developed with the industry in the spring. It is about “reducing the number of customers staying in the store – from 1 person to 15 sq m (the current limit for all stores above 100 sq m – ed.) Per 1 person per 20 sq m; hourly disinfection of strategic places in the store; a person controlling those entering the store compliance with the rules: distance, disinfection, mask; additional two positions for hand disinfection for every 500 square meters of the store’s surface “.

According to Semeniuk, these proposals were adopted by all industry representatives participating in the Monday meeting.

“The Council of Ministers will make the final decision”

The deputy minister added that Deputy Prime Minister Gowin will talk with Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki about opening furniture stores with additional restrictions as soon as possible. The deputy head of MRPiT indicated that opening stores will require an amendment to Friday’s ordinance of the Council of Ministers.

The regulation published on Friday evening – contrary to the draft provision – did not exempt furniture stores from restrictions in shopping malls introduced on November 7. For this reason, some furniture retailers reported that their stationary outlets were temporarily closed from Saturday. At the same time, they encouraged customers to shop online or place orders over the phone.

As the deputy head of the MRPiT noted, work and consultations on the draft regulation lasted until the last hours. – From the very beginning, MRPiT recommended that the furniture industry should be open. Following consultations with entities such as the Ministry of Health, the Chief Sanitary Inspectorate or epidemiologists, it was decided, however, that the list of establishments to be closed would also include furniture stores, she said.

According to Semeniuk, it seems that after introducing additional restrictions “we can allow the opening of furniture stores”. – But it is the Council of Ministers that will make the final decision in this matter – she emphasized.
