Finding an appointment for the first corona vaccination in Baden-Württemberg: a test of patience. There are hardly any appointments in the vaccination centers, and there is a waiting list with the general practitioners. The Ministry of Social Affairs has criticized Federal Health Minister Spahn.
Since May 17th, priority level three people have been vaccinated against the coronavirus in the vaccination centers in Baden-Württemberg. This includes those who are authorized to vaccinate for professional reasons – for example, employees in the police and fire brigade, shop assistants and bus drivers or people who work in youth welfare. In addition, the prioritization of vaccines by doctors in private practice has been lifted for all vaccines.
More entitled – but still scarce vaccine
The current problem: In Baden-Württemberg and throughout Germany, more and more people are eligible for vaccination – only the vaccines are still scarce. The result is that many people are frustrated because of the unsuccessful search for an appointment for the first corona vaccination.
Among other things, many people vent their anger on social media – for example on Twitter under the hashtag #impfdesaster.
The tweet from Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) with the note that we will also need patience in this phase of the pandemic is commented accordingly.
Baden-Württemberg’s Ministry of Social Affairs complains about a shortage of vaccines
Not only on the Internet is there resentment. The head of the vaccination department in the State Ministry of Social Affairs, Layla Distler, also criticized Federal Health Minister Spahn in the “Badische Zeitung”. “It was said that there would be so much vaccine in May that we would hardly know what to do with it,” said Distler. But that did not happen.
So far, far less has been delivered than expected, continued Distler. For example, appointments for first vaccinations could hardly be given in the vaccination centers. Doctors in private practice also indicated that they could vaccinate more. But there, too, there is an increasing number of secondary vaccinations.

The vaccination centers in Baden-Württemberg are not running at full capacity: too little vaccine. According to the State Ministry of Social Affairs, the hope for larger deliveries was not fulfilled.

Search via vaccination portals mostly unsuccessful
Who via the vaccination portal impfterminservice.de tries to book an appointment online for a corona first vaccination, often ends up in the waiting area or receives the information that unfortunately there are currently no appointments available.
The Ministry of Social Affairs in Stuttgart rejects the criticism that the vaccination portal must be improved because of this. The basic problem is that the demand for vaccination appointments continues to exceed the supply of vaccines many times over, according to a spokesman for the ministry.
However, it has meanwhile also become apparent that the uniformity of the vaccination portal is more of an obstacle due to the different requirements of the federal states. In retrospect, it is disadvantageous for the federal states that they use this system but are not the client themselves, it said.
The vaccination appointment service was originally designed by the Federal Ministry of Health as a nationwide system. KV-Digital looks after the portal for the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV).
Ministry: “Loopholes” in the vaccination portal closed
However, there were some “loopholes” with a view to mass operations, which led to undesirable bookings. These are now closed, the ministry spokesman continued. Appointments are now firmly reserved for ten minutes during the booking process.
“So far, the system has been technically extremely stable, also with regard to the high booking inquiries.”

Is there a new portal for free vaccination appointments coming?
At the request of Baden-Württemberg, among others, KV-Digital is currently checking whether it can program and make available its own meaningful overview tool of all free appointments in the state, the ministry said.
Since decisions on feature changes would have to be made in consensus with other federal states, these coordination processes might need a little more time, and the technical changes would also have to be implemented, tested and approved, according to the Ministry of Social Affairs.
In the meantime, several private providers have switched their own internet portals. With an overview of the vaccination centers and the free dates there, they want to offer added value to the official KBV portal. The page impfterminradar.de, which has made the search for free appointments easier with updates over and over again for a few weeks, is increasingly in demand. The portal is expected to record more than a million page impressions every day, such an evaluation.
