Patients and employees in Groß-Umstadt district clinic infected
In the geriatric ward at the Groß-Umstadt district clinic (Darmstadt-Dieburg), there was a corona outbreak over the weekend. According to the latest test results, 17 patients and six employees have now tested positive for Covid-19, as the clinic announced. On Saturday, the clinic had twelve infected patients and four infected employees reported.
The clinic is still determining what led to the outbreak in geriatrics, the message said on Saturday. Other areas are not affected. In terms of patients, the geriatric clinic is comparable to a retirement and nursing home, it said. There has been a general ban on visitors since Thursday. District Administrator Klaus-Peter Schellhaas (SPD) said: “What has now happened in our geriatric ward shows the phase of the pandemic we have reached.”
Due to the corona cases, the clinic was canceled for new admissions up to and including Wednesday. For reasons of caution and out of responsibility for patients and employees, the rescue control center was asked to preferentially accommodate emergencies in other houses.
