The corona figures in Belgium continue to go in the right direction. New hospital admissions have fallen by 17 percent in a week to an average of 133 per day, according to the latest figures from health agency Sciensano.

Sciensano registered an average of 2,153 new infections per day between 8 and 14 May. That is 28 percent less than in the previous seven days. There were 16 percent fewer tests: an average of 43,100 per day. The positivity rate is still 5.9 percent.
There are 1,857 corona patients in the hospitals. 610 of them require intensive care. Those numbers continue to fall well. About a month ago, the covid utilization rate in intensive care still peaked above 940 beds. The government’s target threshold for relaxing the measures is 500 patients in intensive care.
On average, more than 25 people die from the virus every day. Since the start of the pandemic, Belgium has officially had 24,723 deaths from the corona virus.
The reproductive rate of the virus is estimated at 0.87. If the number falls below 1, it indicates that the epidemic is losing momentum.
