Coronavirus: fewer new infections and schools closed or not?

Again many new infections in the Netherlands, but less than a day ago. Since the previous update, another 155 people have tested positive for the corona virus. That brings the total to 959 patients, reports the RIVM.

190 new patients were reported Friday afternoon. According to RIVM, the decrease is the result of the changed test policy. Since Thursday, people with mild complaints are no longer tested because there is a national measure to stay at home with the first complaints.

Schools closed or not?

The cabinet will probably review whether schools can remain open. Talks are planned for the next day with educational organizations and also with hospitals, RIVM and the Federation of Medical Specialists (FMS). It may then be decided to close the schools, something that the cabinet has so far refused to do.

The FMS, which represents some 22,000 specialists and institutions, called on the cabinet to close the schools last day. The specialists are concerned that children and young people may actually spread the coronavirus.

Doctors are also concerned about the supply of mouth masks and corona tests. Some of the supporters only have enough for a day or two.

Abroad

In Spain, a state of emergency has been declared due to the coronavirus. All restaurants and cafes close and all non-essential shops, schools and universities have to be closed. People are only allowed to leave their home to go to work, do their shopping or take care of others.

France is also taking far-reaching measures to ensure that the spread of the virus is limited. Only supermarkets, pharmacies, petrol pumps and banks remain open. The public services also continue to do their work.

Residents and tourists in Madrid react resigned to the new measures:
