Coronavirus. Eurostar passengers must wear masks

The passengers of the Eurostar masks must be worn from next week, as part of protective measures against coronavirus, the company said on Saturday.

“From May 4, passengers will have to wear masks in our stations and on our trains, as required by the French and Belgian governments”, said the company on its website.

Eurostar trains continue to cross the Channel, but with much lower frequency due to movement restrictions, increased controls and less demand from passengers.

Wearing a mandatory mask in public transport

Travelers who do not have their faces covered could be refused on board the trains or subjected to fines from the French or Belgian authorities.

Catering on trains and in stations has been canceled and aid to passengers requiring assistance is no longer provided, the company said.

Belgium, which has the highest per capita coronavirus infection rate in the world (67 per 100,000), will take the first steps to ease its containment on Monday. All passengers on public transport must cover their noses and mouths or face fines.

France, which will take similar flexibility measures from May 11, will also make it mandatory to wear a mask in public transport.
