“New York is tough” is the title of a emotional video published on the networks to encourage New Yorkers in the face of the crisis unleashed by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 and using part of a speech from the governor Andrew Cuomo, who has also shared it on social networks.
“Put an end to that anxiety, put an end to that fear, put an end to that paranoia because we are going to overcome it, because we are New York,” says Governor Cuomo’s voice at the start of the two-minute video that shows, in black and white, images of emblematic places of the city such as the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Empire State skyscraper or the skyline of the economic center of the city.
Cuomo’s voice, who today assured that the state could have reached the peak of contagions, assures that New Yorkers have “dealt with many things” while stills of the terrorist attacks of 11 September appear in September 2001 and the floods caused by Hurricane Sandy in 2012.
“Because New York is tough, because we are tough, because we have to be tough, because this place makes you tough, but tough in a good way,” he says. Cuomo, whose popularity ratings have skyrocketed since the outbreak of the crisis to beginning of March.
The video, produced by the New York company Convict, and which can be seen at the addresshttp://convicts.nyc/profiles/ny-tough, was published this weekend and already has more than a million views.
Its creators assure that the objective is to highlight the hardness and love of New York.
“Right now, we need to double the two halves of that emotion: we need more toughness and more love than ever,” they say on their website.
At the end of the two minutes of images, accompanied by music as well as the voice of the governor, they dedicate the video to the fatalities, who in this region of the northeastern United States today exceeded 4 thousand, and to the sick, whose official number reached this Sunday the 122 thousand.
“New York loves us all, black, white, Latino, Asian, short, tall, gay, straight; New York loves everyone,” Cuomo says in the recording, he concludes by stressing that at the end of this “long” day, “love will win and will win again.”
