Se researchers and doctors have known for a long time that some vaccines can not only protect against the pathogen actually targeted. They can also be helpful against other pathogens in the form of cross-immunity. One example is the tuberculosis vaccine Bacillus-Calmette-Guérin (BCG), which can protect people who have been vaccinated against a number of other infections.
Recently, a study by researchers led by the doctor Mihai Netea from Radboud University Medical Center also made hope in the case of the flu vaccination and Covid-19. In a study that has not yet been peer-reviewed, they analyzed the data from around 10,600 employees at the Radboud University medical center.
184 of the employees were infected with Sars-CoV-2. According to the study, 2.23 percent of the unvaccinated employees became infected. With the flu vaccination, it was only 1.33 percent.
So does the flu vaccine also protect against corona?
