In Lithuania, mink have been infected with the new coronavirus on a fur farm. The farm is located in Jonava district in central Lithuania.
The Lithuanian State Food and Veterinary Service explained that the infection of mink with coronavirus was discovered after it suddenly started to die and samples were taken for analysis. The animals were infected by a sick farm worker.
The service stated that the removal of animals, their feed or any products of animal origin from the farm affected by the virus has been prohibited since Tuesday. A decision has been made to slaughter and destroy about 40 mink from cages affected by the virus.
Outbreaks of infection in mink farms have been detected in several European countries – Italy, Greece, the Netherlands, Sweden, Poland, but in Denmark this month after the detection of a new virus mutation millions of mink were eliminated.
