The Ministry of Health of China has reported this Monday 109 new cases of coronavirus, of which there are 93 of community transmission, most of them –54 – in Hebei province, center of the latest outbreak of the pandemic in the Asian country, which also looks with concern towards Hong Kong, which suffers a new rebound in its fourth wave.
Since December 2020, “epidemic clusters” have been detected in Beijing, and in Sichuan, Liaoning, Hebei and Heilongjiang provinces. The health authorities have confirmed a total of 88,336 accumulated cases and 4,635 deaths.
Shijiazhuang, the capital of Hebei, with a population of eleven million, has been conducting massive screening and has been under quarantine since January 6, as is neighboring Xingtai city.
So far, China has recorded 4,518 imported COVID-19 cases –4,234 recovered. The total number of recovered amounts to 82,400, after thirteen on the last day, although there are still 1,301 cases under medical observation, including 43 in serious condition.
Among the last 16 cases arriving from abroad, four have been in Shanghai, three in Shaanxi province, as well as another two in the Zhejiang and Hunan regions, respectively. Beijing and the provinces of Fujian, Tianjin, Sichuan, Canton, have also confirmed one more case each of them.
The city of Hong Kong, immersed in a fourth wave of coronavirus, has reported 9,557 accumulated cases, –8,758 recovered – and 162 deaths.
The authorities have diagnosed 55 new positives in the last 24 hours, although they are still awaiting the confirmation of another 80, while the authorities fear the possibility of new outbreaks, after confirming new outbreaks in several residences for the elderly and construction sites.
