The Covid 19 pandemic was the central theme of the 2020 edition of the Health System Forum, three days of online meetings and events promoted in the awareness that, once the emergency is resolved, the post-Covid period will be a sort of “annozero” for the reconstruction of the country and the national health system.
Analyzing the trend of the contagion in Italy, the president of the independent foundation Gimbe Nino Cartabellotta explained that, at this stage, a linear growth of the currently positive, passed from 12 thousand at the end of July to 50 thousand in the last week. Of these, about 95% are in home isolation while 5% are in hospital; only 0.5% need intensive care.
“The Covid-19 tsunami scenario of February and March last we should no longer relive it, because the contagion curve is monitored and there are no shortages of devices” said Cartabellotta “It is impossible to hypothesize a second wave like the first, but we must enter into ‘optics that from June 3 we have restarted from the start and are monitoring the rise of the curve. Then, thanks to a slightly too happy summer, with decisions that should not have been taken, such as the reopening of the discos, the curve has risen from 1,400 cases a week to 1,400 a day, indeed now the average is 1,700 ”.
“With this linear and not exponential rate of growth”, Cartabellotta said again “in Italy we could reach 9-10 thousand hospitalized at Christmas, with a thousand patients in intensive care, one manageable figure. We cannot make predictions for the following months now ”.
