Bryan Adams (60) was supposed to give several concerts at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Instead, the Canadian rock star has to make music from home. Nothing works with him either. In an Instagram post, he cleared his anger about it, and also knows exactly who is responsible for this lockdown.

He would have liked to go on tour, but “thanks to bats-eating, virus-selling bastards selling animals in wet markets, the whole world is now at a standstill,” the convinced vegan writes about the video. His message to these people is “thank you very much” and “eat vegan”. Then things like the Corona virus would not happen. According to media reports, the request to speak had previously been published on Twitter, but the message has since been deleted. Comments have been deactivated on Instagram.

Criticism for fueling discrimination
While animal rights activists celebrate the words of the musician, in many places the harsh words of the “Summer of 69” singer are labeled as racist. Amy Go, president of the CCNC-SJ organization, which works for Chinese-born Canadians, is horrified. «That is irresponsible and just like that, so, so, so racist», she says to the TV station CBC. Adams is a role model, so his comments could increase the discrimination that Chinese and Asians are experiencing during the corona pandemic.

Even on Twitter, people don’t hold back their criticism of the singer. “You probably scared 99% of your concertgoers so bad,” says one user. Another says: «Jesus Christ. Bryan Adams destroyed his entire career with just one tweet. »

Adams defends himself
The musician defends himself in a statement. He apologizes to people who feel attacked by his words. «I just wanted to talk about the terrible animal abuse in these wet markets, they are a possible source of the virus. I also wanted to call for a vegan lifestyle. » He loves everyone and his thoughts are with everyone who is struggling with this pandemic.

According to the WHO, it is not yet known how the novel coronavirus was transmitted to humans. At the end of April, WHO spokeswoman Fadela Chaib said: “It is very likely that the virus is of animal origin.” It is likely that an animal temporarily carried the virus. Everything indicates that it originated from bats in China at the end of last year. (imh)
