Coronavirus | Brazil registers more than 1 000 daily deaths from COVID-19

Brazil, one of the global epicenters of the pandemic, once again exceeded 1 000 daily deaths of COVID-19, for which the total number of deaths amounts to 226,309, at a time when global concern about the new Amazonian variant increases, the Government reported

According to the bulletin released by the Ministry of Health, the South American country registered 1 210 new deaths and 54 096 infections in the last 24 hours, after the 595 deaths and the 24 591 infected registered on Monday.

The figures tend to be lower on weekends and Mondays, as many municipalities in Brazil They cannot compute the data due to lack of personnel, but they will go back up as of Tuesday.

According to the data compiled in the last 14 days, Brazil averages 37,600 cases and 1,000 deaths per day from coronavirus, a disease that strongly accelerates in the middle of the second wave of the virus in the country.

The data confirm Brazil as the main epicenter of the pandemic in Latin America and maintains it as the second country in the world with the highest number of deaths, after U.S, and the third with the most infections, behind the North American country and India.

Despite the high figures, the Government confirmed that 8.16 million people have already recovered from the COVID-19while 896 180 are still under medical observation.

THE NEW VBARIANTE CONCERNS BRAZIL AND THE WORLD

The emergence of a new variant of COVID-19 identified for the first time in the state of Amazonas, the most affected by the pandemic, has ignited the alerts of the authorities of Brazil and the rest of the world.

Spain this Tuesday joined the list of countries that have increased restrictions on flights from Brazil, allowing only the entry of passengers who have Spanish nationality or residence.

They have also prohibited the entry of passengers from the Latin American giant countries such as France, Italy, Germany, Portugal, United Kingdom and Colombia, among others.

Scientists believe that the emergence of this variant is behind the explosion of cases in the state of Amazonas, which is experiencing a real sanitary collapse and a shortage of oxygen due to increased income.

The lack of beds in hospitals has forced the regional government to transfer patients to other states of Brazil and, according to the latest data, since last January 15, 424 people have been transferred to 16 other regions of the country.

Amazonas accumulates 271 177 cases and 8 414 deaths due to COVID-19, which represents the highest number of deaths per 100,000 inhabitants in the entire country (203).
