Coronavirus. Banks will provide data on economic sectors to the Ministry of Development, Labor and Technology

Banks are to provide the Ministry of Development, Labor and Technology with information on the Polish economy. This is to help better respond to the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic – this is one of the effects of the meeting of government representatives with the banking sector.

The ministry explained in Monday’s press release that Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Gowin and Deputy Ministers Marek Niedużak and Robert Tomanek met on Monday with representatives of the banking sector.

“Banks will provide MRPiT with information on the condition of individual sectors of the Polish economy; this will enable an adequate response to the crisis caused by the COVID19 pandemic” – this is one of the findings of the meeting announced by the Ministry of Development, Labor and Technology.

“They will help us find solutions”

The participants of the meeting discussed the current socio-economic situation in connection with the pandemic caused by the coronavirus, the role of banks in financing the economy, restructuring and supporting enterprises, and establishing their cooperation with the government.

– We really care about creating effective platforms for communication with the main actors of the Polish economy, and therefore also with the state (banks – ed.) – emphasized Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Gowin, quoted in the press release.

In his opinion, the banking sector can support the government by providing information on the condition of individual sectors of the Polish economy. – They will help us to develop solutions – both ad hoc, related to the ongoing response to the pandemic challenges, and structural – regarding our competitive advantages – Gowin assured.

The Ministry added that the meeting organized in the form of a videoconference was attended, apart from the representatives of MRPiT, by representatives of PKO BP, Pekao SA, Bank Millennium, mBank, Santander Bank Polska, BNP Paribas Bank Polska, ING Bank Śląski, BGK, Bank Polska Spółdzielczości, Spółdzielcza Grupa Bankowa , Alior Bank, Credit Agricole, Getin Noble Bank, Bank Handlowy in Warsaw, Deutsche Bank Polska, and the Polish Bank Association.
