SYDNEY, Aug. 14 (Reuters) – Faced with the rise in new daily cases of coronavirus, the amount of the fine for non-compliance with containment measures has been significantly increased in the state of New South Wales in Australia.
The police force will now impose a fine of 5,000 Australian dollars those who violate the rules of containment or who lie to the authorities responsible for identifying the contact cases, against 1,000 Australian dollars previously.
In the Australian state, the number of confirmed daily COVID-19 cases reached a record 466 in the past 24 hours and four new deaths were recorded on Saturday.
Faced with the rise in cases, the lifting of the nine-week confinement, scheduled for August 28, is increasingly unlikely Sydney. The authorities had initially considered relaxing some restrictions provided that the number of people vaccinated is sufficient and the number of cases has decreased.
“We are going to get by, but September and October are going to be very difficult,” Gladys Berejiklian, Prime Minister of New South Wales, told a press conference.
“It’s literally a war, and we know we’ve been at war for some time, but never this point.”
Next week, the strength of the defense forces responsible for checks will be increased to ensure compliance with containment measures.
