Coronavirus at the funeral of Zofia Karpiel-Bułecki. Sanepid is looking for mourners

Zakopane sanepid is looking for people who took part in the funeral of Zofia Karpiel-Bułecki, very well known in Podhale last Thursday, commonly called “Aunt Bułeckula”. Among the hundreds of mourners was a man infected with coronavirus. For now – as RMF FM reporter Maciej Pałahicki reports – it has not been established how many people could have had direct contact with the infected.

Hundreds of people took part in Zofia Karpiel-Bułecki’s funeral ceremonies at the old Zakopane cemetery, not only from Zakopane, because the deceased was a person known and liked also outside of Podhale. There are many Polish artists and architects in her family so many celebrities from around the country also came to the funeral.

They said goodbye to the dead her son Jan Karpiel-Bułecka – a well-known architect, musician and regionalist, his half-brother Sebastian Karpiel-Bułecka – team leader Zakopower, as well as grandchildren of the deceased, sons of Jan: Jan Karpiel-Bułecka – the award-winning architect, Stanisław Karpiel-Bułecka – known musician, founder of the Future Folk group – and Szczepan Karpiel-Bułecka – skier, multiple Polish freeskiing champion. A popular singer was present Kayah or TV presenter, wife of Sebastian Karpiel-Bułecki Paulina Krupińska.

For now, it is not known who of the participating in the celebrations was infected with coronavirus: sanepid only states that it is a man with confirmed infection.

However, as Maciej Pałahicki points out, first of all, people who are looking for condolences to those close to the deceased, participated in prayers at the house of Zofia Karpiel-Bułecki and in the wake.

Hence supposition that someone close to the deceased may be infected.

In the evening The State Poviat Sanitary Inspector in Zakopane posted a message on its website in which it “asks for contact persons who on July 2, 2020 took part in the funeral ceremonies of Zofia Karpiel-Bułecki at Pęksowy Brzyzek in Zakopane (especially people who condolved), in prayers before the funeral at the deceased’s home and in (…) funeral. ”
