Coronavirus arrives at a nursing home in Santiago | Radio Galicia

There is an active focus of coronavirus in a nursing home in Santiago de Compostela. In recent days, seven people tested positive at the DomusVi residence in San Lázaro. There are 67 isolated people on the second floor, the one with the big dependents. The workers recall that they are not “trained” to deal with the pandemic and ask that health services be derived.

According to sources consulted by Cadena SER, on Tuesday the first positive was known. Those responsible for the residence called 900 400 116, the attention number that the Galician government recommends calling. From there, they recommended that they contact 061, who decided to transfer the person, a woman, to the hospital, where the positive was confirmed.

In the following hours, tests were carried out on all the people on the second floor, a total of 67 large dependents, the most vulnerable group in the center. According to what the Cadena SER has learned, there is one patient admitted to the hospital, while the other four confirmed positives are asymptomatic, after having a fever at first, and completely isolated.

In fact, the workers who are dedicating themselves to the care of these people – 60% of the staff are dedicated to this plant – are entering and leaving the service stairs to avoid new infections.

In the residence they assure that the protocol of the Consellería de Sanidade is being complied with, they say they follow the advice of Public Health, and that they are receiving material. The workers, however, denounce that they are overwhelmed.

In statements to Radio Galicia, the delegate of the Workers’ Commissions and the residence worker, Isabel Salgado, explained that the three-story building has been in quarantine since Sunday. Visiting was banned on Monday, but Salgado denounces the “serious irresponsibility” that, in his opinion, represented the visits, among others, of people with positions in the Xunta. “We are risking the health of residents and workers.”

Isabel Salgado explained that have Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), with a new consignment arriving on Thursday. Although “all the material is welcome”, he remarked that “all people work with masks and gloves, and protocols are followed in isolation“.

In this line, he stated that “the residence works so that the residents are transferred to the hospital, to reduce the burden”, and denounced that “no toilets are being sent.” “We are not trained to carry this burden, this pandemicHe immediately claimed solidarity, since “there are relatives who are nurses and doctors, whose hair has not been seen.”We ask personal sanitary“he insisted.

He also demanded that spaces be enabled in the hotels so that the restrooms and the staff of the residences do not go to their houses, since they are “sources of contagion”. “I have a five companions in quarantine“he added.

Despite everything, Salgado wanted to send a message of tranquility to the relatives, whom he reminded that they are giving everything to take care of the older residents.
