Coronavirus around the world: Turkey goes through ‘worst pandemic’ – World

Turkey is going through the worst period since the new coronavirus pandemic began, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca was quoted as saying by TASS and BTA last night. Kodja said that no less than 80 percent of the country’s population lives in cities with a very high risk of coronavirus infection. Eighty-five percent of new cases are due to the more contagious variant of the virus, first identified in the UK.

The Anatolian Agency, meanwhile, notes that there are at least 285 cases of “South African” detected in 11 of Turkey’s 81 provinces.

The information came before the expected tightening of measures for the holy month of Ramadan.

Turkey is experiencing a third peak of the epidemic, and Istanbul – a fourth, Koca said. Turkey’s health minister has announced upcoming deliveries of vaccines to various manufacturers in the coming months, and the scientific council on coronavirus will recommend tightening measures in the country against the spread of coronavirus, Reuters reported.

The agency notes that Turkey now ranks fourth in the number of new cases of coronavirus. On Saturday, health authorities reported 56,000 new infections in one day – five times more than at the beginning of last month, when President Recep Tayyip Erdogan eased social restrictions, declaring a period of “controlled normalization”. To date, Turkey, with a population of nearly 84 million people, has received about 19 million doses of vaccine, including 11.31 million first needles.

The Minister of Health announced more than 54 thousand new infected in the past 24 hours. Thus, the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Turkey exceeded 3.9 million. The country ranks seventh in the world on this indicator. The death toll in Turkey has exceeded 34,000.
