Over the next 5-7 years, a new virus will appear in the world, which may turn out to be even more dangerous than the current coronavirus.
Olga Golubovskaya, an infectious disease specialist, Honored Doctor of Ukraine, spoke about this on Apostrophe Live on Apostrophe TV.
“You see, there are pandemic cycles. This is a cyclical process. Remember what epidemics were in the Middle Ages? We think that all this is in the past, but no – nothing of the kind. The causative agents have changed a lot. Now, viral infections dominate in nature, which we cannot cope with. We have no effective means of struggle“, – said the doctor.
She added that vaccination is the most effective way, but even this is not enough for this pathogen. There are no antiviral drugs with strictly specific action even in the long term.
“For the flu, we have specific remedies, but here they are not. There are agents that are being investigated, but they are not specific and can be used for many RNA viruses. Because of this, unfortunately, people will die, there will be outbreaks of the disease.“, – stated Golubovskaya.
She stressed that the task of humanity is to prepare for new viruses.
“I say it again: our task is to prepare. We must be ready. If you want peace, prepare for war. And since we belong to the army of peacetime, this is quite true for infectious diseases“, – summed up the infectious disease specialist.
