Coronavirus: alert in Europe for new outbreaks of contagion in Italy and Germany

The pandemic of coronavirus, which has already surpassed 10 million infected people worldwide, seems to be giving no respite. European countries, such as Alemania and Italy, who had started the de-escalation after months of confinement, re-started the alarms when they detected new sources of infection.

“The battle is not won,” acknowledged the Italian Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza, after announcing two dangerous outbreaks in the cities of Mondragone and Bologna. For her part, the Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel, warned that “the pandemic is far from over ” after meeting a new wave of infections in the western districts of the country, Gütersloh and Warendorf.

In Italy, which was one of the countries hardest hit in Europe by the COVID-19 pandemic, the decrease in infections and deaths spread the certainty in many that the worst was behind, but this week in Mondragone, a city 60 kilometers from Naples, and in Bologna, one of the most important Italian cities, new cases were detected, which renewed fears and calls for warning and prudence.

In Mondragone, the epidemic eruption occurred in a community of Bulgarian day laborers, agricultural workers, which provoked criticism among the Italians and created a climate of violence, for which the Italian Government had to send an army contingent and special police troops.

Meanwhile in Bologna, contagion also occurred among a group of workers. In this case, it was at the Bartolini company, the most important transportation company in the country, which announced that at least 64 employees are infected.

In addition, the region’s authority, Armin Laschet, ordered the return to confinement for the entire population until June 30, inclusive. During those days, tests will be carried out to see if the virus has spread outside the slaughterhouse to the surrounding areas.

The World Health Organization (WHO) warned that this new increase in the number of cases is linked to the reopening of activities, and stressed that prevention measures must be increased and reinforced to avoid uncontrollable outbreaks.
