Coronavirus: A Threat to Hispanic Women in Philadelphia | Univision 65 Philadelphia WUVP

PHILADELPHIA, PA– According to an analysis of the United States Census data by The Philadelphia Inquirer, women in Philadelphia outnumber men by 90,000. If you consider the demographics of a city that is 42 percent black and 14.5 percent Latino and with a persistent poverty rate of around 25 percent, it stands to reason that the pandemic will have a substantial impact on women and especially minority women .

In Philadelphia, 55 percent of coronavirus cases are in women. Tragically, 48 percent of Philadelphia COVID-19 deaths have been women.

This pandemic has deepened the many ways in which the gender gap impacts women socially and economically, particularly Hispanic women.

This is especially important during this season in which the coronavirus has found a space among the Hispanic community in Philadelphia.

The city has pooled resources available to women and begins with test sites for detecting coronavirus.

The list includes private test sites that are managed by hospital systems and other organizations throughout the city, as well as public test sites. If people cannot be tested through their medical provider or do not have a medical provider, they can be tested at one of the public test sites listed on the website.
