Coronavirus: 4% of those recovered in the A Coruña area re-enter due to complications | Radio Coruña

Four percent of patients recovered after infection of COVID-19 at Sanitary Area of A Coruña and Cee they have needed re-entry after being discharged due to complications, without having the virus already, as well as less than one percent in Ferrol, while in Vigo it is around 10%.

This has been reported by sources in the health areas, while those of Pontevedra and O Salnés; Santiago and Barbanza and Lugo have stated that they have no re-entries. Meanwhile, in Vigo, 10% of people recovered from COVID-19 have needed hospital readmission after discharge due to complications.

At specific case of A Coruña Hospital sources have pointed out to Europa Press that 4% of patients who have recovered from COVID-19 infection 30 days after being discharged have been readmitted due to subsequent complications.

In this regard, hospital sources have pointed out that the most common complications of these patients with readmission after overcoming the COVID-19 infection are heart failure and digestive pathology.

On the part of the Ferrol Health Area they have specified that 0.85% of the patients have been readmitted with complications after overcoming the infection by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2.

Vigo area

In the Vigo area, 10% of the patients admitted to the Complexo Hospitalario Universitario de Vigo (Chuvi) who recovered after COVID-19 infection required readmission within 30 days after being discharged due to complications, once the virus had overcome .

One of the main sequelae of the coronavirus infection that they have pointed out, taking into account that currently there are hardly any studies because it is a new pathology, is pulmonary fibrosis, an injury caused by scarring in the lungs after inflammation and that it can cause loss of respiratory capacity in the medium term.

Clot formation

In the Vigo area as well, the internist at the Povisa Hospital and member of the Galician Society of Internal Medicine (Sogami), Ana Sanjurjo, has stated that there have been mainly readmissions of patients who have overcome COVID infection with vein thrombosis deep – formation of a thrombus, blood clot, inside the deep venous system – or lung embolism.

Dr. Sanjurjo has pointed out that at present, with the data available to them as there are few studies at the moment, the “most frequent” pathologies that have led to the readmission of patients who have overcome COVID are those related to thromboembolic disease.

“It has been seen that the incidence of this type of phenomena (thromboembolic) is increasing, but the trigger is not clearly established”, indicated Dr. Sanjurjo. “We do not know if it has to do directly with the virus infection or in relation to the inflammatory trigger of this infectious process”, he admitted, to affirm that “thromboembolic disease appears during the acute process or immediately after being discharged” .

“We do not know the exact cause,” continued Dr. Sanjurjo, who pointed out that “series will begin to be published that will clarify the origin” in the future, especially autopsies.

Regarding respiratory complications, this internist has stated that there are patients who have had a “serious admission, with many respiratory sequelae”, so she does not rule out that some people “probably have a sequel” and, she concluded, “this favors subsequent admissions” . For this reason, she has clarified that in this case the sequels are “medium or long term.”

Likewise, he pointed out that the digestive clinic has also been “frequent” in patients discharged after recovering from the COVID infection, but has not “forced so much” to readmission.
