Despite efforts to contain the epidemic, cases of Coronavirus continue to be reported in Europe. In Germany, a thirteenth case was confirmed on Thursday. In the United Kingdom, a third person has been reported. She would not have contracted the virus on British territory.
Across the European continent, 30 cases have been confirmed in nine countries. There is currently no cure or vaccine. But researchers are working to develop treatments. A laboratory located in Lyon in France is one of the pioneers in finding therapeutic solutions.
The co-director of the VirPath laboratory, Manuel Rosa-Calatrava, explains it to us:
“Our objective is obviously to evaluate and, hopefully, to validate these repositioned drugs very quickly in a month, a month and a half in order to be able to offer a therapeutic solution with these repositioned drugs for patients. “
International initiatives are welcomed by China, the epicenter of the epidemic. But Beijing deplores a disturbing rise in anti-Chinese racism.
On this point, Liu Xiaoming, the country’s ambassador to the United Kingdom spoke:
“There is deep-rooted racism, not only in this country but everywhere else, so I think in a crisis like this, countries should stand together and people should realize that we have a common enemy.“
