Coronavirus: 20 French tourists tested positive in Costa Rica – LINFO.re

Foreign visitors have gradually returned after the opening of the borders in Costa Rica.

Six hospitalized

At Costa Rica, the Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday February 9 that twenty French tourists, traveling in the country tested positive for Covid-19. At present, six of them have had to be hospitalized in Saint Joseph, the capital of the country, note RTL.
In a statement, the ministry added that the travelers were diagnosed positive on January 16, a week after arriving in Costa Rica. However, no details were given whether they were infected in the country or if one of them was already carrying the virus.

Fully open borders

The channel notes that tourists gradually returned to this small American country which reopened its borders in August. Moreover, after removing the requirement for a negative PCR test, in October, the Costa Rica fully opened its borders a month later, on November 1st. This decision was taken to promote the tourism sector.
Visitors must, however, present an insurance contract covering accommodation and medical costs in the event of illness.
Since the second week of February, this country has recorded between 400 and 500 daily cases of Covid-19 if this figure reached more than 1,000 new cases in early January.
