An article titled “Safety, Tolerability, and Immunogenicity of Inactivated SARS-CoV-2 Vaccine (CoronaVac) in Healthy Adults 60 Years and Older: A Randomized, Dual Placebo-Controlled Clinical Trial” advises that COVID-19 vaccine is needed for the elderly people who have an increased risk of morbidity and death due to coronavirus.
“We aimed to assess the safety, tolerability and immunogenicity of the COVID-19 candidate vaccine CoronaVac containing inactivated SARS-CoV-2 in adults aged 60 and over,” the report said.
The study was conducted in China. The method used was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase 1/2 clinical trial of CoronaVac in healthy adults aged 60 years and over. The vaccine or placebo was administered intramuscularly in two doses (days 0 and 28).
Test results have shown that CoronaVac is safe and well tolerated by the elderly.
The study was funded by the China National Key Research and Development Program and the Beijing Science and Technology Program.
