Discotheque Aspen Valley on the Oude Markt opened again last Saturday for the first time in 15 months. Despite the fact that all visitors had to test themselves, things went wrong.
Counter rap is increasing
On Friday, the GGD reported that 60 positive cases were directly linked to the nightlife. On Saturday, the counter was almost twice as much: 110 infections. And on Sunday, the GGD reported that no fewer than 165 young people have tested positive.
The GGD has called on all partygoers to be tested for corona. People who have no complaints have also been asked to be tested and to stay at home until the test result is known. “Young people are responding to this,” says GGD spokesperson Astrid Boudrie.
Boudrie emphasizes that it is important that all young people report. She has no idea whether all young people have been tested in the meantime. “The next few days will show whether we have tested the group and whether more young people will join.”
Mystery
It is also still unclear how the club was able to grow into a major fire. It is suspected that visitors exchanged QR codes with each other, in order to enter without testing. The club would also not have complied with all measures. GGD Twente is investigating the cause and expects to be able to release more information one of these days.
Discotheque Aspen Valley will keep its doors closed for the time being, the club announced on Thursday evening.
