The “enemy of mankind” is still launching its attack on the whole world, as it has so far infected 95,808,947 people and led to 2,045,228 deaths, leaving dozens of questions unanswered to this day.
At a time when the never-ending journey of searching for the mysteries and secrets of the emerging virus continues, a recent medical study revealed less common symptoms that appear in people with Covid-19 and are linked to the eyes.
3 symptoms
And a study published by the British Medical Journal pointed to the recording of three symptoms related to the eyes that appeared in people with corona, namely light sensitivity, conjunctivitis and itchy eyes, according to the British newspaper “Express” website.
It is noteworthy that light sensitivity is discomfort in the eyes caused by light, which makes a person need to narrow or close his eyes, noting that this condition is likely to be associated with a headache.
Conjunctivitis is accompanied by swelling of the conjunctiva, which is the tissue lining the inner surface of the eyelid and the outer covering of the eye, and this helps to maintain the moisture of the eyelid and the inner eye.
Commenting on the study, Ali Mirza, a specialist physician at the Center for Ophthalmology Consultants in London, explained: “Some people who complain of light sensitivity suffer from headaches, and they feel pain in the eyes when suddenly lighting a dark place, or moving from dark to light.”
Mirza also added: “Inflammation of the eyes is one of the less common symptoms of Corona, but only the diagnosis is able to distinguish whether it is an indication of infection with Covid-19 or is it just a conjunctivitis virus.”
He pointed out that the three mentioned symptoms associated with the eyes should go away once you recover from the coronavirus, advising patients who suffer these symptoms to replace contact lenses with glasses during their COVID-19 infection.
