The Coronalert app, which is intended to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, has been downloaded more than 657,000 times since its launch on Wednesday. This was announced on Monday at the press conference of the National Crisis Center. “We warmly appeal to every Belgian to download the app,” said spokesman Yves Stevens.

The app has been available to everyone since Wednesday available for free via iOS or Android. The tool anonymously records who people have come into physical contact with. When a doctor prescribes a test, the user can generate a code in his app so that it can be linked to the code of his test. If the test is positive, the user will get this in their app and can send a notification to anyone who has been around.
“At the moment there are already 657.000 downloads of the app ”, says Yves Stevens, spokesman for the National Crisis Center. “But I would like to make a warm appeal to every Belgian to download the app. It barely takes two minutes and the app is free, but it helps enormously in contact tracking. ”
Last Saturday there were some problems with Coronalert: many users saw an error message when opening the app. This was due to a problem with some operators’ network, which prevented the background retrieval of information from being done correctly. “But Coronalert has continued to exchange codes via bluetooth with other smartphones that had installed the app, so the app did its job,” emphasizes Carmen De Rudder, spokeswoman for the Interfederal Testing and Tracing Committee.
