Corona week in graphs: virus spread decreases, not yet in nursing homes

After a cautious decrease (by 5 percent) last week, the number of infections decreased by 32 percent in the past seven days. The nearly 44,000 positive tests in the past week were more than 20,000 fewer than those of the week before.

It was also much less busy in the test streets of the GGD. In the past week, about 245,000 people have visited; that is more than 50,000 fewer than in the previous week. According to the RIVM, this may be due to the fact that people have less contact with each other. For this, fewer cold viruses are circulating and the Dutch have less reason to call the GGD for a test.

Yet it does not explain the decrease in the number of infections. The percentage of people who tested positive is also lower. Last week this was 14.5 percent, against 16.6 percent a week earlier. According to the WHO, this is still much too high: the epidemic is only under 5 percent according to the World Health Organization.

Strong decline in Randstad

The number of new infections is now decreasing in all Dutch provinces. The number of infections in the Northern Netherlands is still lower than in the rest of the country. The number was higher in the Randstad and Noord-Brabant, but a significant decrease can now be seen.
