Austria is tightening the measures to contain the corona virus. As of Wednesday, all supermarket chains will distribute protective masks at the entrance, which must then be worn. Chancellor Sebastian Kurz announced this in Vienna on Monday.
In the medium term, this mouth and nose protection should be worn wherever people go by.
Federal Chancellor Kurz emphasized that this was by no means a substitute for keeping a distance. The point here is not to protect yourself from infection, but rather not to infect others – this ensures that transmission in the air is not so easy. “I am fully aware that masks are something alien to our culture,” it will be a major change.
As soon as the masks are available in Austria – this will probably be the case on Wednesday – the masks will be distributed by the supermarkets at the entrance, the chancellor said. “From this point on, it is mandatory to wear them in the supermarket.” It will be a learning phase. The goal will be to wear these masks wherever people walk by.
