Migros and Coop count: Both major distributors now meter exactly how many customers are allowed to shop in the shops. The number is limited – a protective measure against the spread of the coronavirus. But the dosing system doesn’t stop there.

Coop is now providing customers with the free plastic bags for an alternative use that are normally intended for fruit and vegetables. And not to store the shopping in it, “but as a hygiene measure for the hands,” as Coop spokeswoman Rebecca Veiga BLICK explains.
–
For this purpose, a stand, such as that used for fruits and vegetables, is set up in the entrance area. All over Switzerland in all Coop supermarkets and Coop City stores. Corresponding posters would indicate the alternative use of the bags.

Customers become inventive
The idea came when watching customers post. The bags have drawn more and more over their hands so that they don’t have to touch the handle of the shopping basket or the bar of the shopping cart, says Veiga.
–
The campaign is in line with various other measures. In addition, all Coop employees have access to disinfectants in the sales outlets. “We have set up hand disinfectants for customers,” Veiga continues.

Daily cleaning in the branches has been intensified. This also includes, for example, the self-checkout counters, cash register terminals and shopping carts. Cash register employees across Switzerland have recently been protected with plexiglass panels. (uro)
