A 15-year-old girl died “surprisingly fast” after her health deteriorated from a rare heart infection linked to Covid-19.
Gorga Hallyday breathed it in last September at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Hampshire, southern England.
The family doctor had referred Gorga to the emergency room after seeing his heart beating very fast, in addition to what he said was suffering from food vomiting.
The girl’s mother said she died the same day she was supposed to take the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
The mother told a Hampshire court that her daughter started experiencing pain in the early hours of September 24 and a test she underwent showed she had Covid.
The doctor prescribed an antibiotic to treat her sore throat, but by September 28 her condition had worsened and she could not resist vomiting.
When the doctor saw that the girl’s pulse was speeding up, recording 147 beats per minute, he immediately referred her to the emergency room.
The girl, who is the eldest of five siblings, was placed in a “doctor-induced” artificial coma pending her transfer to Southampton for specialist treatment.
But Gorga’s condition continued to deteriorate further until she died five hours after arriving at the hospital.
Dr. Nicholas Tarme, who received Gorga, says she “seemed terrified, not just about the situation; she had a feeling that something was wrong with her body, that she was struggling to cope, and her condition had worsened very quickly, and she seemed stunned and shocked. ” .
Gorga had developed “myocarditis,” which Dr. Tarmi says is a “very rare” disease due to COVID-19 in children.
Pediatrician consultant Samantha Holden said the cause of death was acute myocarditis associated with Covid-19 infection.
“She (Gorga) was the only child I saw who had covid-19 associated myocarditis,” Holden added.
Mother Halliday asked Dr. Tarmy if her daughter (Gorga) had been vaccinated, would she have suffered less? “It’s a rare case,” Tarmy replied.
And the doctor added: “I think getting the Covid vaccine could have reduced the risk of these complications, but I see it in the light of what we know.”
Coroner Sarah Whitby told the court that Gurga’s health had deteriorated at a “surprisingly rapid” rate.
After the trial, the mother of the deceased girl encouraged people to take an interest in the COVID-19 vaccine.
Attending Portsmouth Academy High School, Gorga was a nice girl, a talented boxer and a promising musician.
