The positivity for coronavirus in the community remains at consistently high levels, while the hard indicators (admissions, intubations, deaths) show a slight decrease, according to the epidemiological report of the EODY for the week of August 5-11.
COVID-19 infection
OR positivity in all the tested samples is found at the same levels with last week.
817 new imports were recorded, showing a slight decrease compared to the previous week. The average weekly number of new admissions over the previous four weeks was 803.
20 patients are intubated, while in 35 the death toll rose.
The dominant strain in recent weeks is BA.2.86 which carries at least one of the F456L and R346T mutations.
It is noted that this category of mutant strains has not been associated with an increased risk of severe disease.
Viral load surveillance in municipal wastewater showed a decrease in SARS-CoV-2 virus circulation in three of the nine areas tested and an increase in three as well. Stabilization was recorded in three areas.
Vulnerable population groups (elderly and people with underlying diseases) are advised to scrupulously follow preventive measures against respiratory infections and to seek medical advice in time for symptoms, in order to provide timely treatment.
At the same time, it is recommended to the general population, in the presence of respiratory infection symptoms, to limit contacts with people belonging to vulnerable groups.
