People over 60, adults who receive a flu shot invitation and healthcare workers can get a corona shot from October 4 in Alphen aan den Rijn, Leiden and Gouda. The new corona vaccination round of Hecht GGD Hollands Midden will start that day.
A modified vaccine is used for this vaccination round. According to Hecht GGD Hollands Midden, this offers the best available protection against current variants of the coronavirus. “Pending the start of the new vaccination round, we will temporarily stop vaccinating against corona from September 16 to October 3,” Hecht GGD said.
The vaccination locations are open from Tuesday to Saturday until further notice. At the beginning of November, a number of temporary injection locations will also open in the region, where people can come in for a corona injection without an appointment. Risk groups
Hecht GGD Hollands Midden points out that the corona shot will restore protection against the coronavirus. “This also reduces the pressure on healthcare. and that is important, because the coronavirus is still circulating and can revive in the autumn and winter.”
People who are at a higher risk of becoming seriously ill from the coronavirus are eligible for the new round of vaccinations. This includes everyone aged 60 and over, people between 18 and 59 years old who receive an invitation for the flu shot and healthcare workers with direct patient and client contact.
Children and adults from high-risk medical groups, for example people with an immune disorder, can receive the corona shot all year round after referral from their doctor. Pregnant women can also always get a corona shot, because it protects the mother against serious illness due to corona. It also reduces the risk of premature birth.
Customization
A corona shot is not necessary for everyone. Healthy people under the age of sixty have a small chance of becoming seriously ill from corona, because almost everyone is now protected by vaccination, a previous infection or a combination of both. Customization is possible in individual cases. For example, for people who have a family member with vulnerable health.
From September 19, only people aged sixty and over will gradually receive a personal invitation letter by post. People aged 18 to 59 who are offered a flu shot, healthcare workers and pregnant women will not receive an invitation letter. From October 16, they can make an appointment with the GGD via www.planjeprik.nl or 0800 – 7070. This also applies to people outside these groups who still want to be vaccinated, for example because of a vulnerable family member or on the advice of a treating doctor.
