39-year-old nursing home employee Sanna Elkadiri was the first Dutch person to be vaccinated with a corona vaccine on Wednesday around 8.45 am. She was given the Pfizer vaccine at the injection site in Veghel.
“Here in Brabant, where the crisis also started, we are starting to put an end to this crisis,” said Minister Hugo de Jonge (Public Health).
Immediately after Elkadiri, three of her colleagues were vaccinated. Hospitals will start vaccinating their employees in acute care on Wednesday. Ambulance personnel can also be vaccinated from Wednesday.
Elkadiri, who was asked by her employer for the first vaccination, works in the nursing home Het Wereldhuis in Boxtel. She said she had some nerves beforehand. “But it feels really good. At last the vaccination will start now. We can go back to normal soon.”
The first bottles with Pfizer’s corona vaccine left on Tuesday evening from the storage in Oss towards Veghel, two days earlier than planned.
The Netherlands is the last EU country to start vaccinating. De Jonge has admitted that we could have started earlier. “We have proved insufficiently maneuverable,” he said. It caused strong criticism from the House of Representatives.
All GGD injection locations will be open from next week
From Friday, pricks will also be taken in Rotterdam and Houten and from Monday, prick locations in Amsterdam, Drenthe and The Hague will also be opened. “As of January 15, all 25 GGD injection sites in the country have been opened for the administration of the COVID-19 vaccines,” said the Ministry of Health.
In the past two days, 59,608 people have already made an appointment to be vaccinated against the corona virus.
