Tim Meyer, team doctor for the German national team, sees no need to vaccinate Bundesliga players against Corona prematurely.
“There are healthy young football players in the very last group,” said the doctor Deutschlandfunk. Meyer is convinced that the existing hygiene concepts are sufficient to be able to play sensibly: “That’s why you don’t actually have to have this vaccination prematurely for football.” The DFB doctor was largely responsible for the hygiene concept of the German Football League (DFL) and the German Football Association (DFB).
The idea of having athletes vaccinated before the Olympic Games or the European Football Championship in the summer is “alien” to Meyer. “That can only be the decision of those responsible,” he said. He does not know whether the federal government is grappling with “whether it will allow such things for representatives of Germany”.
