Much has been speculated about the number of unreported corona infections among children. A study in Western Pomerania now yielded unexpectedly low values.
According to studies by the University Medical Center Greifswald, the number of undetected corona infections in children and adolescents in Western Pomerania is low. Of 526 evaluated samples, a previously undetected corona infection could only be detected in a maximum of twelve.
According to the RKI, 22.5 percent of the 12 to 17 year olds received a first vaccination. More corona news in the live ticker. more

Project manager expects an increasing number of unreported cases
The project manager at the Greifswald University Children’s Clinic, Almut Meyer-Bahlburg, concludes that there is a relatively low number of unreported cases. You expected a higher number. “I conclude from this that the hygiene measures have already taken effect,” said Meyer-Bahlburg. Homeschooling and the limited school and kindergarten operations apparently also had an effect. “Now you have to see what’s coming in autumn.” If the schools remain open, the senior doctor at the children’s clinic expects more positive samples.
Evaluation until spring
Since the end of last year, with the consent of their parents, the researchers have been testing blood samples for antibodies that were produced in examinations of children and adolescents up to the age of 17. To this end, Greifswald University Medicine has worked with hospitals in Pasewalk, Stralsund, Anklam, Demmin, Bergen and a practice in Greifswald. The study is to be continued until next spring.
