Negotiations on new Infection Protection Act ended

According to Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD), the traffic light coalition has finished negotiating the new infection protection law, which is intended to curb another corona wave in autumn. “I think the package is very good. We are prepared for the fall,” said Lauterbach to the newspapers of the Funke media group about the draft law negotiated with Justice Minister Marco Buschmann (FDP). “At the same time, it protects us from being overburdened by too many Covid patients and from a critical situation caused by staff shortages.” Lauterbach did not provide any specific information about the components of the package, but the presentation is expected shortly. This is about follow-up regulations of the Corona provisions in the Infection Protection Act, which expire on September 23. They are the legal basis for the corona protection measures of the federal states.

Lower Saxony reports 10,041 new infections

The incidence is falling, but the number of new corona infections in Lower Saxony is still at a high level with 10,041 new infections (previous week: 12,488). 515.3 is the current seven-day incidence per 100,000 inhabitants and week according to the Robert Koch Institute (previous week: 723.9). Twelve people died with the virus. A total of 10,034 deaths have now been registered.

RKI reports 87,681 new infections nationwide

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the nationwide seven-day incidence on Wednesday morning at 477.9. This is evident from numbers that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 5 a.m. The day before, the value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week was 516.1 (previous week: 652.0; previous month: 665.0). The health authorities in Germany recently reported 87,681 new corona infections (previous week: 121,780) and 210 deaths (previous week: 181) to the RKI within one day.

Note on the current numbers: The incidence values do not provide a complete picture of the infection situation. Experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI – mainly because by far not all infected people have a PCR test done. Only positive PCR tests are included in the official statistics. In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of individual daily values.
