Unemployment in Bremen fell in December despite Corona measures

The Bremen unemployment rate fell slightly to 11.1 percent. Almost 41,000 people in Bremen and Bremerhaven were unemployed at the end of the year. The possible consequences of the current lockdown are not yet included in these figures. According to the employment agency, these will only become apparent next month.
Lower Saxony, on the other hand, registered almost 2,000 additional unemployed. The employment agency speaks of a development that is usual for the time of year.
Nationwide, unemployment hardly changed in December. Compared to November, there were only 8,000 unemployed. The rate is still 5.9 percent. However, the Federal Employment Agency received 666,000 reports for short-time work.

Vaccination start in Oldenburg, Ammerland and Wesermarsch

In the northwest, more counties are starting to vaccinate against the corona virus today. Among other things, the districts of Oldenburg, Ammerland and Wesermarsch as well as the cities of Oldenburg and Delmenhorst begin immunization. Vaccinations began in the Emsland, Vechta and Osterholz districts on Monday.

Probably no easing in sight

Today the federal and state governments are discussing how to proceed in the corona pandemic: the signs point to an extension of the measures. From 1 p.m., the state heads of government will speak to Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) about which corona restrictions should apply from January 11th.
It is hard to imagine that shops, restaurants, cultural and leisure facilities will open again next week. In the past few days, politicians and doctors have been too unanimous in calling for the current contact restrictions to be extended. Because there are still far too many new corona cases every day. The nationwide incidence value is still significantly higher than the target of a maximum of 50.

51 further corona infections reported in the state of Bremen

The health authorities are reporting 51 new infections for the state of Bremen today. 41 of them were registered in the city of Bremen, ten in Bremerhaven. There are currently 1,135 actively infected people registered in the country. The number of those who died from or with Corona rose by four deaths to 208.
The incidence value in both cities is still below 100: in the city of Bremen the value is 80.9 and in Bremerhaven it is 68.8.

Lower Saxony announces stronger restrictions on school operations

According to Lower Saxony’s Minister of Education, Grant Hendrik Tonne (SPD), the previous restrictions in school operations cannot remain. Primary school students in Lower Saxony will probably not return to face-to-face classes on January 11th. Even in day-care centers, there will probably be fewer contacts and restrictions.
Bremen’s Senator for Education Claudia Bogedan (SPD) has so far stuck to the measures announced before Christmas. Neither Education Senator nor Mayor Andreas Bovenschulte (SPD) wanted to comment further. One does not want to burden the deliberations of the prime ministers beforehand, it is said from the Bremen town hall.
