Corona ticker Lower Franconia: Corona at s.Oliver Würzburg

6.30 p.m.: Lohrer Mopper cancel their carnival

Carnival at Lohrer Moppers is canceled that year. The carnival society in the Lohr Kolping family had actually planned an Elfer Council meeting in the town hall for February 26th. There, instead of three smaller meetings in the cramped parish hall, the carnival friends wanted to bring a large meeting in the town hall to the stage. But the corona pandemic throws a spanner in the works, because the requirements with a 25 percent maximum occupancy make the project economically uninteresting.

The active participants had already put a lot of preparation time into the session, but had to cancel now. You just don’t know what it will look like in two months, according to Arno Schmitt from the board of directors. The mopers were still confident at the start of the carnival in November in the municipal facility, which is why the motto for the new campaign: “No pandemic will stop us – Lohrer mopers are stronger than ever.” But now the new beginning is slowed down again to the chagrin of the Lohrer mopper. In January, a group leader meeting will be held to discuss how at least the club’s youth can be kept in line. Including the marching band, 160 people are active in Lohr during Carnival – and now, of course, sadly along with the fans that Carnival falls into the water again.

The Lohrer Mopper were also forced to take a break in the 2021 session. But they never completely disappeared from the scene. Last year, for example, videos of the carnival opening were made and specially designed fabric masks were presented at the Mopper & Schnüdel monument on Schlossplatz. The dance groups took part in an online challenge on Instagram and in February 2020 the “Mopper Couch Carneval” took place, which was very popular with young and old.
