Corona infection is on the rise in several European countries. Sweden now sees an increase in six regions.
According to Swedish daily newspaper On average, about 300 new daily cases of infection have been registered in the last week. In recent weeks, infection rates have increased significantly in Stockholm, Skåne and Västra Götaland.
Dalarna, Halland and Västerbotten are also experiencing an increase, but here the infection has increased at a slower pace.
Anders Björkman, infectious disease doctor and professor of infectious diseases at Karolinska Institutet, expects a new wave of infections to be on the way.
– I think you can say that this is the start of the fourth wave, Björkman says to the newspaper.
In Norway, 246 corona infections have been registered in the last 24 hours. In the last seven days, an average of 175 cases of infection have been registered per day.
In its latest weekly report, the National Institute of Public Health estimates a downward infection trend, with a reproduction figure of 0.8 since 15 June.
– Whether we get a bigger wave are questions we can not fully answer. We have made different models, and there is a certain possibility for that, but there is great uncertainty associated with it, said director Frode Forland in FHI to Dagbladet at the end of June.
The institute believes that there will be local and minor outbreaks. If there are many of them, the cases can also turn into a wave of infection.
– It is a battle for time here, between infection and vaccine, said FHI director Camilla Stoltenberg.
On Wednesday, the vaccine dose will probably be set at five million in Norway. The hope is that everyone over the age of 18 will have been offered the second vaccine dose during the second week in October.
