On Monday, 2,588 new infections were reported in Austria. Most of the infections were in Upper Austria, followed by Styria and Lower Austria.
With over 500 new corona infections in the last 24 hours, Upper Austria tops the list, followed by Styria and Lower Austria with 448 new infections each. Vienna is in the middle with 358 new Covid infections.

In the past 24 hours, 2,588 new infections were registered in 17,562 registered PCR tests in Austria. That means a positive rate of around 14.7 percent. The number of new infections on Monday was below the seven-day average of 2,765 new infections in 24 hours. However, significantly fewer results were reported in the past 24 hours than the 23,283 test results that were added on average over the past seven days.

Corona infections by federal state
The new infections since the last report are distributed among the federal states of Austria as follows:
–
- Burgenland: 79
- Carinthia: 239
- Lower Austria: 448
- Oberösterreich: 543
- Salzburg: 220
- Steiermark: 448
- Tirol: 143
- Vorarlberg: 110
- Wien: 358

This also meant that the seven-day incidence – the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within the past seven days – has increased slightly across Austria compared to Sunday: It was 217.5 on Monday, yesterday it was 213.8.

Increases in hospital patients
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 325,051 positive test results have been reported. With 4,530 deaths from or with Covid-19 – an increase of 57 compared to Sunday – and 284,174 recovered, there were 36,347 actively infected on Monday. That was 537 less than on Sunday. However, the decrease was significantly lower than the average of the past seven days, when an average of 1,234 less active cases were registered per day than the day before. Whether this is a trend or just a weekend-related anomaly remains to be seen.
–
The same applies to hospitalized corona patients, where there was an increase of 35. There are currently 3,479 in hospital with SARS-COV-2 infections, 594 of them in intensive care units. Here too there was more than on Sunday – at 5 p.m.
