Corona: – Significant increase

Haraldsplass Diakonale Hospital in Bergen reports a “significant” increase in the number of admitted corona patients, reports Bergens Tidende.

Before 12 June, the number of daily patients was around four to five, while in recent days it has been around ten to twelve, the hospital states in a press release.

Together with the figures from Haukeland University Hospital, the total number of corona patients in Bergen is 30 tonight. Both have one in the intensive care unit.

– It seems to us that the “autumn wave” has already started, says Haraldsplass’ CEO. Kjerstin Fyllingen to Bergens Tidende.

Fyllingen informs Dagbladet that the hospital has seen an increase in the number of covid-19 patients in the last ten days.

– At the end of March, we had a peak of 26 patients, then the number gradually went down. It has remained steadily low with around two to three patients a day, but ten days ago it went up again.

– Why do you call it an “autumn wave”?

– The numbers have been stably low for a good period, but now it’s turning. NIPH has said earlier this year that it will change, and that we must be prepared. To us, it may look like it has started before.

– Do you have enough capacity to deal with an increasing number of corona patients?

– We work to secure staffing in the future, and have good employees who can withstand the pressure. We have a challenge in that we also have a large influx of other, “regular” patients – many elderly with infections and lung and heart disorders, in parallel with the covid patients. At the same time, the number of covid patients is lower than in March, it has settled at a stable higher level.
